Can Better Oral Health Cure Your ED?

Hi!

Erectile Dysfunction is becoming a bigger problem for the modern man. Now that we’re becoming more open about the topic, new studies are coming out constantly that shed light on what’s happening beneath the surface.

Something we tend to take for granted is our oral hygiene. I mean, I’ve probably flossed once in the past week (okay, the past month). But ignoring a simple thing like gum disease could actually be a contributing factor to ED.

Let’s explore why this is and what men can do to take a step closer to a full recovery from erectile dysfunction!

The Link Between Gum Disease and ED

If you're like most men, you probably see a little blood in the sink when you brush. But the truth is good oral hygiene can play a massive role in keeping your erectile dysfunction in check.

Research has shown that people who have gum disease are more likely to develop ED than people who don't. Why is this? Well, chronic gum disease causes inflammation and infection in the mouth. This inflammation can invite bacteria into the blood damaging the endothelium, the inner lining of the blood vessels.

When the endothelium is constantly being bombarded by toxins, it develops plaque which, in turn, inhibits the blood flow through the blood vessels. As you hopefully know by now, blood flow is EVERYTHING when it comes to maintaining a firm erection.

Another factor you need to consider is that the inflammation also leads to a decrease in nitric oxide, the chemical that works with the endothelium to allow the smooth muscle to contract and relax (also necessary to have an erection).

If you are someone who has a poor diet, doesn’t exercise, or smokes; you also face an increased risk of lowering nitric oxide levels in your body. In that case, gum disease becomes an even bigger risk factor.

How to Reverse Your ED with Oral Hygiene

While it almost goes without saying, it still needs to be said, how you take care of your oral health matters! If you want to start seeing results when it comes to recovery, you need to create simple habits you can do daily.

If you brush your teeth and you see a bit of red with your toothpaste, then you are most likely suffering from gum disease. A trip to the dentist, brushing twice, and flossing daily can reverse this and lead to better oral hygiene.

You don’t want to stop there though. To ensure long-term health and to raise your nitric oxide production, you need to have a good diet (preferably Mediterranean) and exercise at least 3 times a week with high intensity.

Final Thoughts

Who would have thought something so seemingly insignificant and common could lead to something as life-altering as erectile dysfunction?! The good news is that as simple as the issue is, the remedy is just as easy. Paying attention to your oral hygiene can go a long way in healing or preventing ED.

Coupled with diet and exercise, you may just be able to ditch the pills and get back the sex life you deserve!
